The Tripp Trapp is popular for many reasons – but it’s also a bit of an investment. Especially once you factor in the Tripp Trapp accessories that you’re likely to want to go with your chair.
As the mother of three young children, I’ve gone through a lot of baby “gear.” Over time I’ve realized that owning a smaller number of really high quality items is better than owning a lot of lower quality ones.
Certain products stand out due to their quality and versatility. In my opinion, Stokke’s Tripp Trapp chair is definitely a standout.

The Tripp Trapp can be used for years and years as your child grows up. In fact, the Tripp Trapp can be used – with an attachment – from infancy until adulthood! (Although I can’t say I know any adults who use the Tripp Trapp as their personal chair).
The point is, you will get plenty of mileage out of this chair, significantly more than with almost any other item you’ll purchase for your child.
The fact that the Tripp Trapp is extremely useful for babies and toddlers and older kids is largely why I feel that the Stokke Tripp Trapp is worth the money.
The Tripp Trapp is at a perfect height to bring even young children up to a standard sized table, making it convenient for them to eat dinner alongside the rest of the family.
When my baby girl was still being spoon fed, we would just pull her right up to the dinner table in the Tripp Trapp. The height was ideal.
And when my son started using the Tripp Trapp, he was at a much better height for sitting at the kitchen table than he was in a regular chair. He also had a place to put his feet for balance. This is important for small kids! It really helps children sit still at the table when they’re not squirming around struggling to stabilize themselves.
(As you can see in the photo below, adult-sized chairs really don’t put small kids at a comfortable height for supper!)
The Tripp Trapp is a really nice looking chair, which I appreciate after using some very clunky high chairs in the past.
The Tripp Trapp’s clean, streamlined design blends in with adult furniture, while of course being built for kids. After years of having “kid stuff” all over the house, I was more than ready to have a children’s chair that blended in.
Of course, no matter how attractive the chair is, your child will still make a huge mess. You can’t blame Stokke for that!
Looks aside, this is a highly functional chair. It’s solid and versatile, accommodating naps for newborns, meals for babies and toddlers, and even homework or art projects for older kids. I appreciate any product that is functional in multiple ways!
With a small footprint, the Tripp Trapp does not take up significant space in the kitchen. This chair isn’t bulky in the least, and the compact design is a plus for both aesthetics and as a space saver.
The Tripp Trapp offers great ergonomic support for toddlers, including a footrest for added balance and stability.
As I mentioned earlier, one of the reasons that young kids find it hard to sit still to eat is that it’s challenging for them to balance in chairs that aren’t properly designed for their size. The Tripp Trapp accommodates for that, which makes children more comfortable and subsequently less squirmy.
While there are individual accessories that work well with the Stokke Tripp Trapp, there are also “bundles” you can get for your chair.
Which bundle you choose will depend on the age of your child.
Stokke has both a Newborn Set and a Baby Set that come with everything you need right out of the box.
I own the Baby Set, and I love it! It has everything I need for my toddler, and I’ve been very happy with it. I got a bundle that doesn’t include a cushion, although in retrospect I would have liked a cushion for when my baby was younger.
You can also get a Baby Bundle that comes with not only the harness, but also a tray and cushion.
There are many Tripp Trapp accessories you can choose from. If you’re on a budget, you can prioritize what you really need from what you can do without.
One of the reasons I like the Tripp Trapp chair is that you’re able to customize it to your needs, depending on preference and the age of your children.
There are multiple Tripp Trapp accessories that you can purchase to get the most out of this item.
An accessory that I would highly recommend is the tray, as it allows you to use your Tripp Trapp away from kitchen table as needed.
While there is so much to like about the Tripp Trapp, there are a few cons. And it wouldn’t be a complete Stokke Tripp Trapp review without going over a the negatives!
When I first bought the Tripp Trapp, I found it a little challenging to get the 5-point-harness adjusted properly (which may have been user error – my sister had no issues with this!)
I also find that the harness sometimes gets tangled up, making it harder to get my already squirming toddler secured in the chair. This hasn’t been a major issue, but it can be fussy sometimes, especially when the buckle gets stuck under the baby’s bum.
The Tripp Trapp is an investment, and the high price tag is a “con” for this chair. In addition to the cost of the Tripp Trapp chair itself, there is the additional expense of adding accessories to go with it. It can add up!
If you can’t swing the cost of the Tripp Trapp, you can consider some Stokke Tripp Trapp alternatives. It won’t be quite the same, but you can get a lot of the benefits of the Tripp Trapp with some less expensive chairs.
Food can get stuck in the straps, as is the case with any fabric. I wipe them down with a wet paper towel right after meals, but some food always sticks and can be harder to get off.
It’s natural to wonder, is the Stokke Tripp Trapp worth the money? This chair is a long-term investment, rather than a transient “baby” item, like your average high chair.
After using the Tripp Trapp for two of my own kids, I feel strongly that it is indeed worth the extra money.
The Tripp Trapp has so much going for it. It’s attractive and extremely useful. It’s compact, so it doesn’t take up too much of your floor space. It has a classic design. And it can be used from infancy up through all of childhood, with a few key accessories.
I love that you can pull the Tripp Trapp right up to the dinner table, or use an attached tray for lots of flexibility.
It wipes down relatively easily and will look great in almost any kitchen.
In sum – this is an excellent chair, and worth an investment. For me, the Stokke Tripp Trapp is worth the money.
