Adoption

They Break, You Know

A child should never have to prove that they are worth loving.

This is the message behind “Stephen’s Story” – the story of a little boy who grew up in foster care and was killed months after aging out of the system, never having found a family of his own.  Stephen’s story (The Child I Didn’t Adopt) has now been shared over 730,000 times on Scary Mommy and Huffington Post, as well as several other publications. What started out as one boy’s story has become a call to action, forcing us to look at the collective neglect we, as a society, are responsible for when it comes to our most vulnerable children.

This page is dedicated to providing you with resources related to foster care and adoption, in honor of Stephen and in support of all of the kids still waiting for a family in the foster care system.

An acknowledgement for ‘Stephen’ your story has brought awareness to those who never would have otherwise known to pay attention, I’m sorry for your suffering, and send my love from this plane to yours now.
